The Stamping technique
Hair transplantation boasts of an interesting history that dates back to 1950. Dr. Norman Orentreich formulated a renowned principle of "Donor Dominance", which formed the base of hair transplantation. This theory served as a great platform for devising diverse hair transplantation solutions, which have been enriched with varying innovations for remarkable growth.
Large Plug Technique
Best known as the first hair transplanting solution, this technique traces its roots back to the 1960's. Skin grafts, a hair tissue comprising of multiple hair follicles was assumed to be an effective option that could be transplanted from a healthy scalp to a relatively bald donor area. Plugs used in this technique used to grow at an extremely slow pace and gave an artificial impression. Owing to this discrepancy, this technique is not used in the present day world.
The improvements in surgical instrumentation, including hand motors and spaced templates, allowed the placement of multiple and smaller (2-4 mm) circular cuttings into a single seat.
The hair follicles are now removed in strips from the donor area at the back of the head and individual cuts are prepared from the strips. The open wound is sealed with a wire bond to achieve a better cosmetic result in the donor area. Hair cuttings are smaller, in the form of minigrafts that have 3 to 6 hair follicles, and micrografts that have 1 to 3 hair follicles.
New implantation techniques made it possible to move large numbers of grafts (thousands). The instruments were getting smaller to minimize trauma to the tissue. The strips that were removed from the hairline were also getting bigger. As the grafts were removed from the strips per microscope, fewer hair grafts were lost due to the blinded cutting of the surgeon or assistants.
Especially under the pressure of the Internet, more and more doctors and clinics are beginning to explore the technique. The FUE hair transplant technique is many times less invasive than strip or FUT hair surgery and there are no complications after the treatment. The results of an FUE operation are almost identical to what can be achieved with a strip operation. Patients who have undergone both methods always prefer the FUE method because this causes much less trauma.
Often Micro hair pigmentation is used for those that are not candidates for hair restoration.
