I just had 2000 grafts to the middle and 1900 to the front area in 2 day session by Dr. De Reys at Prohairclinic Belgium. I would like to share my experience and have a feedback also from the readers of this forum during my healing and growing process.

Dr. De Reys told that I have really good density on donor area and there were a lot of grafts with more than 4 hairs. In the recipient area the density should be 50 grafts per cm2 in the frontal area and 45 grafts per cm2 in the middle area. I'm also starting to eat finasteride to get some growth on the crown area, so I'm hoping to have good result after one year.

I have to say that the operation was not easy for me. On both days I did not felt any pain when Dr. De Reys was doing the harvesting or the slits. To be honest I did feel a little bit, but he was giving me more anesthetics and everything was ok so far...

The beginning of the implating was also proceeding well, but on a some point I was feeling a pain only on the right side of the recipient area. Left side was ok in both days and I did not felt anything in there. But on the right side, there were areas where I basically felt every single touch and the pain was just like inserting needles under my scalp. I had more anesthetics many times in there, but it didn't help at all. Anyway I managed the rest hours, even it was really difficult. I tried to watch movies, but I do not remember much of those because I was consentrating to the pain.

Dr. De Reys told that I was bleeding really much and that might be the reason why the anesthetics didn't work on some small areas. He suggested me to check my blood levels, because it is not normal that bleeding does not stop. I will go to see my doctor after I have recovered from this, because it's a huge risk if I'm having a big accident and I'm just keep bleeding.

At the moment I have no swelling or pain anymore. I had significant swelling on my face during first two days and I was able to open my eyes a little bit. When I was flying back to home, I was not wearing any protection to my head. I tried to use a cap, but because of the swelling it looked just like a nutshell on a top of the football.

In overall I'm glad I did this and I'm hoping the result will be worth of all what I have experienced.

My Hair Loss Story.
In 2008 I decided to check out the possibilites of a hair transplant.

So I searched the internet to find a good surgeon.

I ended up with prohairclinic and dr. De Reys in Belgium. Since I live in Norway it hoped to avoid a long plane trip to the US. I could have chosen dr. Ilter in Sweden, but I chose prohairclinic, coz they gave me a good price on the 3000grafts and seemed professional. Also I learned that

Dr. De Reys had learned his teqnique from Dr Ilter, and Ilter also had been doing a lot of transplants in Begium with Reys.

Anyway I wanted to check out some more , so I sent an mail to dr. Shapiro in the US,

.since I had learned here on the forum that he is one of the best in the US.

And I read somwhere that Shapiro had visited the Ilter clinic.

And Shapiro had nothing negative to say, he said he considered Ilter to be one of the best in Europe.

So I took the chance one of his students:)

Finally I asked Bart at the Prohairclinic for some, references, and I got 20 + mail adresses to former clients. I sendt them all a mail.

And I got an answere from almost all of them, and they where all quite positive, of course some had had some pain after and some had some swelling, but they all where positive.

So I booked my transplant in the end of Oct. 2008.

I am not writing here until now, coz I have been quit busy, have had a fire in my house. So had other things on my mind. And I dont have many pic`s either.

Well but it`s better than nothing right

FUE felt like a breeze compared to my previous strip operation. Thank you for NOT offering strip surgery, it will save many scalps !!

I decided to do an FUE operation to add hair density in the front and top head areas 3 years after a

traditional strip operation, which went very well. The reasons I decided to a FUE method rather than another

strip are many and significant. Firstly, i was not comfortable with the idea of adding another scar at the

back of my head, and secondly and most importantly I did not want to go through the very painful recovery

after a strip operation. The main hesitation for me was the fact that i would need to shave my hair short

but this is easily overbalanced by the method's advantages.

The method itself is slower than a strip operation. For roughly the same number of grafts (2,000) the strip

procedure took about 4 hours whereas the FUE took 2 full days. The reason is of course that the follicles

are extracted one by one and that's the same reason there is no scar and that recovery is much faster. The

first few days after a strip surgery are extremely painful and it is impossible to even sleep on the first

couple of nights. The recovery is much longer because of the time needed for the scar to heal (and then it

always leaves a mark visible if you shave your head). After a strip operation I could not go out for around

ten days, the time to pass any danger for infections (antibiotics and antiallergic medicine is taken) and

for the anesthetic liquid to pass out. After my FUE operation, I was out on the first night! I was able to

drive, shop and work. Until the time of writing this (4 days after the operation), I have experienced no

pain whatsoever and considering my experience after a strip operation it has been quite impressive. In fact

the only pain from a FUE method comes during the procedure when inserting the local anesthesia, and it is

similar to the discomfort when having a tattoo made. In short, everything works for the patient's comfort

and faster recovery.

Prohairclinic :
"thank you Pavlos for the nice comments. Pavlos received 2000 FUE grafts in 2 days. Each session started at 09:00h and at 16:00h he went home again."
