Minoxidil
Minoxedil to extend its haircycle
Minoxidil was developed in the fifties as an antihypertensive agent. Today Minoxidil is hardly prescribed for this purpose, because compared with other antihypertensive drugs it had more side effects. When Minoxidil just came on the market, the researchers recorded, to everyone's surprise, a remarkable side effect: on all the limbs of their subjects there was an increased hair growth
Minoxidil - hair tonic - hair growth stimulator
After this discovery, scientist thought about the best form to offer this hair loss medicine to the customers. Finally, a lotion containing Minoxidil developed in 1988 under the brand names Rogaine (U.S.) and Regaine (outside U.S.) came on the market. Rogaine was the first officially recorded and proven hair tonic in history. Expectations were high: Shares of the manufacturer, the American company Upjohn (now Pfizer), rose like a rocket on Wall Street. Meanwhile, the patent on Minoxidil expired, and there are many (cheaper) generic versions on the market. There is not only a 2% solution for sale, but also a 5%, 12.5% and even a 15%. Studies have shown that the higher doses would work much better: the 5% version would be 45% more effective than the 2% version. In Dutch and Belgian pharmacies, only the 2% version can be bought without prescription. From 5% and up there‘s a prescription necessary from a physician. When ordering it on the Internet you can usually get is without a prescription. This is a very good and cheap solution, but it is advisable when using Minoxidil in higher doses to consult with your doctor.
